Soo back to this environment then, I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to create. Having never created an environment before I also didn't really know how but I went ahead and researched a bunch of different ideas that I thought could turn out pretty cool.

I decided to go for the mayan temple in the end as I believed it could be quite simple for my first environment project and I could easily create some modular geometry. I also really liked the design and all of the detail work used with their architecture.

Environment Project

Well, seeing as I'm here and currently waiting for a film to buffer for me to watch, I figured I may as well tell you about our last project before I forget. So essentially I wanted to post stuff about this project whilst in the process of completing it but at the same time I really didnt want this place to get confusing and have various work out of chronological order. Although now, seeing as I have finally uploaded the work from last year, there's nothing stopping me!

So anyway the project was to create an environment using Maya (our first time using this package, and first time creating an environment for most of us). This involved modelling, texturing, lighting and rendering. I may have gotten a little sidetracked and actually ended up doing mine in UDK, I'll explain why. In the pre-production phase I thought this would be a really good time to get some experience with a game engine as this is pretty much mandatory if I wish to go into games, also we don't have a particular UDK project or in fact anything of the sort. I obviously did a bunch of research to make sure it would be doable and got pretty excited about it all in the process!!

I'll post some more info and the results in a bit but for now, Captain America!!

At long last . . .

Finally!! I've got a showreel to upload. It may have taken a lot longer than I had hoped (due to putting in a lot of time with current projects) but I can at last upload a decent quality version of my showreel from last year. This means I can actually get on and post some more up to date and relevant work. Phew! I will have a lot to post then, but for now, here is my second year Major Project showreel, I hope you like it.

2nd year showreel

Hey, I know its been along time since I last posted anything but that'll change I promise!!! Just started my 3rd and final year of uni so I'll be on and updating a lot more. Before I make any posts on any new projects for this year I thought I would upload a show reel from my major project last year. Sadly the quality of it is pretty poor but it's just a temp while I sort out my Premiere and get a decent render.

On second thoughts, blogger doesnt seem to want to upload my video for some reason. Well, I guess I'll just upload a better quality one next time I'm here (if it lets me).

a long time coming . . .

Woah, it's still here. That's right, I managed to track down my blog again. This obviously means that I have lots of work to upload!!! But first, I have managed to sort out what I am doing for each of my four projects (two personal, two collaborative). For personal projects I have designed a mech for one which I am quite pleased with and for my other project, I will be building a character/mercenary. My collaboratives on the the other hand took a bit longer to sort out. My first collaborative involves doing three weapon designs (an assault rifle, an energy-based weapon and a heavy weapon) for another students game demo idea. This will involve doing obviously the initial concepts and designs and taking into consideration a low-poly build and projection mapping. For my other collaborative is to build a house for a friends short film. The film will be rendered straight from 3DS Max so I won't need to worry so much about the poly count of the build. There are my projects that I have settled with and I will soon upload some images detailing my design process.
